IIOC Cultural tour – W1



At 8:00 A.M. our bus will take you to the Chatam Sofer Memorial (the second holiest pilgrim site of Jews in the world after the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem) (Pic.2) and a section of the Jewish cemetery where the great Rabbi Sofer is buried.  From there we will move to the ruins of Devin Castle (Pic 1).  We will walk around this significant site in European history, enjoy the magnificent views and visit the museum.  Next, we’ll travel to the small town of Svätý Jur in the foothills of Small Carpathians to see the parish church and its unique Gothic and Renaissance works of art.  Lunch will be served in a restaurant (Pic 5 ) that is typical for this wine-growing region. After lunch we will pay a visit to the workshop where the world renowned majolica ceramics are made (Pic 3,4). Our next stop is Červený Kameň Chateau (Pic 6), an important Renaissance fortification built according to the fortification ideas of Albrecht Dürer, the Leonardo da Vinci of central Europe. Dolná Krupá Manor House and museum (Pic 7).  Ludwig van Beethoven stayed here and during that time he wrote the famous Moonlight Sonata.  In celebration of the artist, the composition and the place, there will be a piano concert featuring the work of this musical genius. We will return to Bratislava in the evening.
