Why Simplicissimus

SimplicissimusTokaj

Famous and inspiring travel novel „ Abenteuerlicher Simplicissimus“ written by Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen had its contemporary parallel in the travel novel „Ungarischer oder Dacianscher Simplicissimus“, the author of which was Daniel Georg Speer, coming from the Silesian town of Breslau. This „Schelmenroman“ was published in 1683 and it describes his stories and life realities in the years 1660 – 1675 exactly on the territory of the present-day Slovakia. Similarly to its better-known elder literary brother, the Hungarian Simplicissimus is also full of stories from the war – the border with the Ottoman Empire in Hungary, encounters with outlaws, life of the bourgeois society, musicians, students and also of simple people. Everything takes part in the preserved cities, buildings, roads. Descriptions of nature and landscape are also included. We offer tours around the regions and sights of Slovakia (Liptov, Spis, Saris, Zemplin), which the literary and real Simplicissimus visited.  One cultural-sightseeing tour (Kulturreise) from our offer follows the original route of Simplicissimus and is accompanied by reading from this novel in the historical „Teutsch“ language.
