Friday (29 June) 3:00 P.M.: travel from Bratislava to the city of Banská Bystrica. Possible evening opera performance (Vincenzo Bellini: Beatrice di Tenda) in the castle courtyard in the nearby town of Zvolen. Departure will be adjusted to the time of conference conclusion! 




Saturday (30 June) Tour of the city of Banská Bystrica, whose historical monuments are a reminder of the period when it was a significant copper mining centre and the seat of the Thurzo-Fugger mining company (1490 – 1540). The monuments here were created by the masters of the late Gothic workshops in Nuremberg and Vienna. Visit to the old mining town of Špania Dolina. Evening opera performance at the castle courtyard in the town of Zvolen. (Giuseppe Verdi: Simon Boccanegra – in Italian).




Sunday (1 July): We will travel to the old mining town of Banská Štiavnica, situated in the mountains and see numerous monuments dating back to the times of silver mining – the castle, anti-Turkish fortifications, religious buildings,  museums and the former mining university founded in 1763. In the afternoon we will move to Kremnica, the centre of gold mining and the minting of golden “Ducats” – the currency that was legendary throughout Europe. We will visit monuments, the museum of coins and the museum in the mint that is still in operation.
In the evening we will travel east to the Spiš region in the foothills of the High Tatra Mountains.




Monday (2 July): Rafting down the River Dunajec, visit to the Spiš region towns of Kežmarok with its legendary articular Evangelical church and Levoča, the site of a medieval church with a set of Gothic wing altars, one of which is the tallest altar in the world.




Tuesday (3 July): Visit to tourist centre in the High Tatra Mountains. Tour of monuments in the Orava region – Orava Open Air Folk Architecture Museum and the bizarre Orava Castle with an informative history of the seat of Orava Compossessorate (a joint-stock company that operated from 1626 to 1945). In the evening return to Bratislava.
